VFD (2004)

[edit]

Article was listed on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion June 30 to July 7 2004, was kept as consensus was not reached. Discussion may be found at Talk:The Solo family/Delete.

Where is this canonical? None of this information is in any of the movies, and I doubt if the books are canonical. RickK 04:55, Jun 30, 2004 (UTC)

Well, too bad, because it is. See Expanded Universe.

Re-write

[edit]

I decided to give the article a complete face-lift because frankly it was a bit of a mess. I haven't changed much of the actual text, just moved things around. Most importantly I moved the whole of the old lead into a new section called 'Fictional History' because that's what it was and I wrote a new lead with the focus on the most well known members and why they're important. I also changed 'Leia Amidala Skywalker' to 'Leia Organa Solo'. As far as I'm aware Amidala was never her last name (most Star Wars characters seem to take only their fathers last name) and she was called Skywalker for about 5 minutes before being adopted. Besides Wiki policy is to go with the most commonly used correct name. Issues that still need work:

  • The whole article is still lacking sources. In particular the first sentance of the lead needs a source for the claim that the Solos are some of the most significant and well known characters. I don't think it's inaccurate, but it could be seen as peacock words or weasel words or something.
  • The lead as a whole could be better written. One reason I didn't re-write much else was because I don't like the way I word things.
  • I think the article would benefit from a real-world history section. When/how/why did writers get permission to create, marry, kill off etc. characters, was it ever controversial? Is it something Lucas or his company has a plan for and they dole out significant events to writers? I don't know anything about this side of things but if anyone does it'd be good to see.
  • The Courtship of Princess Leia says that Han's great grandfather was a pretender to the throne, and hanged for it, which this article appears to contradict. I have no idea which one is right so if someone could clear that up it'd be helpful.
  • I only got down to Jaina's section before running out of time, so everything under that still needs work. I'll try and get on it later. Danikat (talk) 16:25, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Addition of unsourced information

[edit]

I have reverted the recent changes by User:Basically blogging because they seem to lack a source; they are also removing information already present without giving a reason. If a source is given I would be happy to restore the addition, but it should also not come at the expense of the information already present, at least without a reason. 331dot (talk) 13:33, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Solo family. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Legends

[edit]

I was brought to this while working on a merge request. One thing that caught me off guard was the use of the term "Legends" which appears to refer to the expanded universe, as opposed to the new canon of the movies. While Star Wars fans may be familiar with the use of "Legends" it is not explains on this article, and is probably also the same issue on other related pages. Perhaps some explanation would be helpful for someone reading just this page, without the backstory of the divergence between the original expanded universe and canon. Disney has retroactively de-canonised the entire expanded universe, haven't they? The name Solo, according to the Lucasfilm movie Solo: A Star Wars story suggested the name was one the titular character made up for convenience. Comes.amanuensis (talk) 00:05, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

add a scroll bar to the family tree?

[edit]

The Solo_family#Family_tree chart is too wide for my tablet screen, with no way to scroll right to view the rest of the chart in Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge. --71.121.143.73 (talk) 07:20, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
