Pharmaceutical / Healthcare profits ranking

[edit]

This is a comment regarding whether revenues made by non pharma subsidiaries of companies should factor in in the ranking of "largest" pharmaceutical companies. Johnson & Johnson might be the largest healthcare company in the world, but a large fraction of the revenues are not made by pharmaceutical products but cosmetics or healthcare products like lotions or mouthwash. This skews the perspective in this list if you compare it to companies like Roche which don't sell any consumer products. I mean, is Neutrogena lotion a pharmaceutical product? Clearly not. According to the German Wikipedia page JNJ is only No. 8 worldwide when it comes to pharma only sales. I think this has to mentioned on the page somewhere that total revenues are listed and not necessarily pharma revenues. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.3.50.254 (talk) 07:27, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Getting this page protected

[edit]

What would other editors think about trying to get this page protected so only auto confirmed users can edit? It's tedious - correcting the number of red links introduced (mainly by IPs) and its clear the edit warning doesn't work.. XyZAn (talk) 10:06, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Benefits vs. Category?

[edit]

I do not think that the current list provides any benefit over a category based on current inclusion criteria and format. The main inclusion criteria is that the company must have an article; the main format guide is that a listing should be a simple link to the extant article. If either the inclusion criteria and/or format were revised, I think this list would add value. For instance, if the inclusion criteria were to be expanded to include listings which have a reliable source attesting to their status as a pharma company. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 04:22, 11 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Corbyn, Stacey & Company

[edit]

Not clear whether Corbyn, Stacey & Company should be added to the 'defunct' list. What do people think? My reasoning for addition is that it's description includes "firm of manufacturing ... chemists", which is kind of the definition of a pharma company in the small-molecules-are-king era. International Therapeutic Proteins

[edit]

Wondering whether there would be consensus for inclusion of International Therapeutic Proteins in the list. In past incarnations of pharma companies, the products of this company would fall under the "natural products" category, not a term used very often these days for big pharma units. Thanks for your thoughts. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 01:54, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Establishing a reason for the existence of this list

[edit]

I've spent a substantial amount of effort in expanding this list. I am interested in establishing a firm reason for the continued existence of this list. I've considered several potential value statements, but want input from the broader community.

  • Comprehensiveness across topic: no single category contains the full set of companies listed here. Rather, there are several dozen categories that contain articles listed here. Thus, it is superior to categorization in that matter.
  • Inclusion of date information reveals potentially missing or incomplete information across multiple articles, thus helping with editing prioritization.
  • Single source of information for statistical analysis of company longevity, start year and end year trends: information found in this article directly supports statistical analyses in these areas.

I'd welcome any additional comments related to benefits, or push back related to those I've articulated. Thanks to all. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 02:21, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
